We’ve been streaming media for a few years now (and for some of us, even more), but in 2019, streaming went to a whole new level. And we’re not necessarily talking about Disney+ (but we also kind of are).

If you’ve been following award nominations this year, then you know that a growing number of best picture, not to mention acting nominations are for content produced by streaming companies like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Yes, you’ve seen television show nominees (and a whole lot of winners), from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to Fleabag and a whole lot of awesome bingeworthy stuff in between.

But now you’re seeing Best Actress nominees, like the Golden Globe nomination for Emma Thompson for her work in the movie Late Night, an Amazon Studios production. And that’s just one of many that are popping up.

At first it was cable taking over network, and now, the streaming services are coming for cable, as many folks are ditching it for streaming services – which this year included the new Disney+, featuring both original content and old favorites. All the Star Wars movies (except for Episode XIII, so far)? That’s tough to beat.

We’re excited to see what 2020 holds for streaming, especially as more content with female directors and crews, featuring diverse people from marginalized communities is growing. More, more, more please!
